Pendant lighting is one of the most common types of lighting because the design lends itself to every style and many can be inexpensively manufactured. Mini pendants, for example, can be small plastic shades over a fifteen watt light bulb. Those are very cost-effective. Another reason is that they take up the least amount of space to display so department, home improvement, and lighting stores carry that type more than any other.
Forms of Pendant Lights:
Pendant lights are semi flush mounts, which means that hang down from the ceiling rather than being mounted directly to the central wiring. That provides a lot of room for ornate designs, several sizes, and many styles. Traditional pendant lights were large lights that were located in the center of the room. They provided bright lighting, and may have had a thin glass shell for decoration. Classic ones have a frosted dome over the light bulb(s) that cast a softer light throughout the room. They are mostly in living rooms and kitchens, although styles can blend in with the decor of any room in the home. There are even outdoor pendant lights for the patio, the deck, or the full outdoor kitchen.
Drum pendant lighting features a circular shade around the bulb(s). It focuses the light downward and is perfect for over a table, an island, or a coffee table. The look gives the impression of warmth and charm. Most of these are larger, so the room has to be big enough to handle a drum shade light. The drum style is becoming popular and is used more and more with other styles such as chandeliers and flush mount lights. Some lamps also have drum shades. Drum shades come is all colors, metals, and fabrics. Some have designs on the shade that allows slivers of light to shine through it.
Most manufacturers include pendant lights in their collections because they are so popular and versatile. Feiss lighting, for example, feature pendant lights in many styles. Traditional, Art Deco, Vintage, and Modern styles have selections of pendants. Finish options feature oil rubbed bronze, satin nickel, and chrome.
Minka Lavery collections, including The Great Outdoors, have mini pendants, traditional pendants, and modern pendants. All of their collections, such as Hearst Castle, Minka-Aire, and Casa Cristina, include a broad range of price points, so customers can find the perfect light to suit their needs.
In order to view several manufacturers at once, customers should utilize websites on the internet. Stores do not have the space to showcase all the different styles of pendant lights, or any other type of lights. There are manufacturers, like Livex , that have over five thousand products of lighting alone. The lighting choice is usually what pulls the entire room together, so it makes no sense to limit the choices.
There are options that customers have no idea even exist, depending on the location where they live. If they live in a small rural area, they may not even have had the opportunity to visit a specialty lighting store. Compare styles, pricing, and lighting types in the comfort of your own home and take as much time as needed to make a final decision.
